it gives good sparks it depends on how well you use this little tool. is it worth the price I believe it is.experiment with different strikers it reacts differently in in some cases it works better with others then what it comes with in my opinion.the only thing I wish it had would be a small handle or at least a whole in one end other than that it works great.

I was pleasantly surprised when this arrived and I tried it with my Mora Bushcraft Kniv. The carbon steel 90° spine on the Mora throws a shower of hot sparks, just what I was looking for!! The 5" Rod allows for a long stroke and Plenty of material for sparks! To make a suitable handle, I took an 8" strip of Gorilla Tape, split it in half, and wrapped it around one end of the rod. Now it's easy to hold on to, as well as having some backup accelerant to start your fire.I have two other rods I bought, but their too small and stubby to get a real good strike or shower of sparks. They work if there is a good ignition source such as a cotton ball, or char cloth, but hard to hold and a very short stroke. These will be my backup now.I would recommend this to a friend.

Exceptional value for a ferocerium rod. The lanyard is too short and I upgraded to a bright orange 550 Paracord for neck carry. The partial saw blade is great for striking the rod but not long enough to function as a mini saw and the teeth are going in the wrong direction.

This rod will last a long time! The scraper is of good quality as well. This rod DOES have a pre-drilled hole, so you can use paracord (or other lashing material) to put the striker and rod securely together. I used a thin strip of friction tape on the end to provide a secure grip. This rod throws a big shower of very HOT sparks so be careful!! I have tried it in dry and wet conditions and have not had to use more than 2 strikes to start any of my fires. I love it!! I plan on getting 4 more and we will never need to look for another rod. Great product, fast delivery, well packaged! Very pleased indeed.

Recently bought some of the firesteel that is sold here and nothing short of amazed at the quality and capacity of the steels sold. Way more to them than I thought there would be and they work better than they say. Even wet, damp, cold they still managed to throw sparks like a sparkler. And yes they light up paper, tissue and even the cloth I was accidentally using.Had an issue to start but he understood (and yes some of it was my own frustration being in Canada) and showed me that customer service is not dead in any way here. You can't go wrong here.

The product is exactly as stated, but too large in my opinion to have on your hip. It was just a bit too long and heavy. It did arrive quickly though and seems to be of good quality.

Product arrived just as described. This thing feels massive compared to the sticks purchased in the stores. Pre-drilled hole is nice for those who would like to attach a lanyard. Plenty of length to braid your own lanyard around it. Throws a shower of sparks as one would expect from a rod this size. Overall, I do not feel cheated in the least bit with this purchase. Absolutely fantastic fire steel! Scraper is amazing! The pair is unbeatable. I still prefer to scrape with my knife but there is no doubt the scrapper throws a better shower. I find it to be an intermediate metal as far as hardness goes, which is exactly what I wanted. Easily lights feather sticks without any other tinder.-Mitch
